Eligibility
Associate Member
Any person, firm or corporation engaged in a trade, industry or profession related to shelter construction, remodeling or land development and not inconsistent with the objectives of the Brown County Home Builders Association and is of good character and good business reputation, shall be eligible.
Builder Member
Any person, firm or corporation currently in the business of shelter construction, land development or remodeling; and agrees to subscribe to the Code of Ethics and bylaws of the Association; and is of good character and business reputation; and has successfully completed and passed all education programs as described in the BCHBA Policy and Procedure Manual for Builder members shall be eligible.
To be eligible to participate in the Spring Showcase of New Homes and Fall Showcase of New Homes a member must be an approved Builder member prior to the final deadline to withdraw an entry. The member must also have held a membership in the BCHBA for a minimum of one (1) year prior to the event.
Requirements
Join the Brown County Home Builders Association as an Associate member.
Indicate on your application your desire to work toward a Builder membership.
Requirements to become a Builder member MUST be completed within 18 months of applying for membership.
- Attend a President's Reception
- Complete and pass the four (4) required courses offered by the BCHBA:
- Contract Law & Construction Forms
- Estimating
- Building Codes & Standards - (must be taken before Building Science)
- Building Science
- Provide a valid certificate of insurance
- Submit a written request to the Board of Directors to change your classification from an Associate to Builder member.
- Requirements for Builder membership are waived if a firm applying for membership in the BCHBA currently holds an approved Builder membership in another Home Builders Association and is recognized as a Builder member by the WBA and NAHB.
Course Descriptions
Contract Law & Construction Forms
This class offers an overview of various legal issues a contractor may encounter, with an emphasis on contract law and how it applies to the construction industry. This class also covers construction liens, insurance concerns, forms of business entities. Additionally, the Brown County Builders forms will be discussed in detail. (BCHBA forms are not available to members until they become Builder members).
Estimating Practices
This class consists of residential construction, estimating, with systematic estimating procedures utilizing work sheets, including interior and exterior services and materials, price comparisons of various companies, paretic and activities utilizing estimating systems and practices.
Building Codes & Standards
This class explains Wisconsin residential codes, standards and the code process. Emphasis is place don state and local building departments, building permits, inspections and code enforcement.
Building Science
This class will explain the importance of mechanical and natural ventilation, health and safety issues in residential homes, moisture problems within residences and diagnosing building related issues.
